MNREGA- Uttar Pradesh is the leading state in man-day creation

MNREGA- Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), work is being done continuously to provide employment to the needy people living in rural areas. Under the leadership and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister  Keshav Prasad Maurya, continuous efforts are being made to provide work to the rural people as per their demand under the MNREGA scheme under the Rural Development Department. Every effort is being made to provide 100 days of employment to unskilled laborers in their own village with priority.

Uttar Pradesh is consistently in the category of leading state in terms of creation of man days under the MNREGA scheme. So far in the financial year 2024-25, more than 20 crore man days have been created. If we talk about the last 3 years, then in the year 2021-22, while 32.56 crore man days were created in 2021-22, 31.15 crore man days were created in the financial year 2022-23 and in the financial year 2023-24, this is the second time in the history of the scheme when the target set in a single year was revised thrice.

Earlier, the target was increased thrice in the year 2020-21. For the financial year 2023-24, a target of 21 crore man days was first set, which was increased thrice to 25 crores, then 30 crores and then to 34.50 crores. Crossing the target, more than 34.54 crore man days were created in Uttar Pradesh. This has been possible due to the instructions given by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to provide maximum work under MNREGA. Uttar Pradesh is the leading state in the country in man-day creation.

MNREGA is proving to be a boon for the poor in the villages. In the current financial year 2024-25, 100 percent employment has been provided to 60.17 lakh families in the state against the demand of 60.17 lakh so far. In the current financial year 2024-25, 100 percent employment has been provided to 1,95,714 labour families in the village by Basti district in the state against the demand of 1,95,717 so far. Whereas, 79,40,929 man-days have been created. Basti district is number one in the state in man-day creation. Azamgarh is second and Jaunpur is third.

Commissioner, Rural Development  G.S. Priyadarshi has given clear instructions to the concerned officers that there should be more focus on creating man-days under MNREGA, so that more and more people can get employment in the rural area. The implementation of schemes related to MNREGA should be done in a better and planned manner. Many schemes related to employment, housing, drinking water, women empowerment, irrigation, roads, plantation etc. are being run under MNREGA. In the current financial year 2024-25, till now more than one lakh families are being provided work under the MNREGA scheme to make their livelihood easier. So far this year, there are 1,00,371 such families who have completed 100 days of employment.
